Designed to keep printing costs low, the imprint’s single color also gave the printer, Factotumdesigns, flexibility to print on different color shirts.
The New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) is a “recreational trails advocacy organization with 31 chapters throughout New England and over 7,000 members.”
The design submitted to the organizations’ Trail Grants t-shirt contest was inspired by the opportunities to explore offered to riders, hikers, and others by the work of NEMBA and its chapters.
References to the wheel in NEMBA’s corporate identity, while avoiding mountain bike and trail building tropes, speaks to the multi-use nature of the trails built. Centered on the distinctive bridges NEMBA trail builders create as part of their efforts, the whimsical hand-drawn design was influenced by Dr. Suess’s “Oh the places you will go” as well as favorite artists like chirpandwhimsy on Etsy.
Our design, which was selected by the popular vote of the organization’s membership, resulted in over 550 t-shirts sold and over $5,000 raised for trail grants.
