We designed the first Women Who Wrench Clinic to empower women riders by allowing the time, tools and expertise to learn how to take care of their bicycles both at home, or when out on a ride.
Working with Team Colavaita’s Andrea Smith, the only woman mechanic on the pro circuit, and Steve the Bike Guy, we created a curriculum for the three-hour hands-on session which covered the basics and allowed the women to get greasy and make their own repairs and adjustments. At the end of the event, each woman left with a toolbox filled with the essentials as well as a t-shirt and apron featuring the Women Who Wrench logo.
The event, which benefited Unity Farm and Little Bellas was a huge success with one attendee posting afterwards “Freedom is riding a bike…empowerment is knowing what to do when things go sideways and the ability to handle your own sh##.”
